Digital Palette Film Backs

My Digital Palette CI-5000S came with three different film adapters, which each allow the use of a specific film format.

These adapters, or backs are compatible with most Polaroid Palette and Digital Palette film recorders, including the CI-3000/CI-5000/HR-6000 and their variants.

Here's what they all do, and some photos of them, as info on some of these is really scarce :)

35mm v1 Back

This back allows the Palette to record images to standard 35mm film, with a frame size of 24 x 36mm

There are a few variants of this back listed here, I have the 'V1' model.

Here's a few different angles of that :)

This attaches to the film recorder using the two large thumbscrews, and is automatically controlled via the DIN connector which attaches to the main Palette unit.

Type 100 Packfilm Back

This back allows the Palette to record to Polaroid Type 100 peel-apart packfilm, or its' Fujifilm equivalents.
(including Polaroid 669, Polaroid 690, and Fuji FP-100C to name just a few!)

The Type 100 format produces instant photos in colour or B&W, measuring 3¼ x 4¼ inches or roughly 8.25 x 10.8cm.

Unfortunately this format is long discontinued, with the last film being manufactured in 2016.

My example of this is quite damaged cosmetically, but is otherwise in good working condition.

This back actually uses a standard Polaroid Land Camera Back assembly as used in other Type 100 cameras, like my (kinda funky) Acmel License 4 ID photo camera.

Parts are interchangeable between these, and with many other Type 100 backs and cameras as well.

Also, note how these backs attach to their cameras/adapters using eight small screws...

Undoing these lets you separate the back from the film holder, so maybe these could be used to attach other film holders - maybe even SX70/600??

This back attaches to the Palette the same way as the 35mm back, but it doesn't have a DIN connector as there are no electronics on it.

4x5 Graflok Back

This back allows the Palette to record to 4x5" large format film, or any other film format that can use a standard Graflok type attachment.

It was mainly intended for Polaroid's long discontinued instant 4x5 films, such as Polapan P/N Type 55 or Polacolor ER Type 59.

My Palette actually came with two of these backs**, both fitted with a Polaroid 545i instant 4x5 sheet film holder/processor.

Here's what one of those looks like

The Graflok mounting assembly on this is attached to the back using the same 8-screw layout as the Type 100 back, meaning the actual Palette attachment parts are mechanically interchangeable between the two.

However the lenses are not interchangeable, given the different focal planes and film heights of the different backs.

This back also has a dummy DIN connector, which plugs into the Palette to identify this back to it.
It's not actually connected to anything, and is apparently just a pin jumper!

330 Series / Autofilm Back

The Autofilm or 330 series back allows the use of Polaroid 330 series integral instant film.

I don't own one of these backs, but I do know about the format!

Polaroid 330-series film produced an image measuring 3¼ x 4¼ inches, or roughly 8.25 x 10.8cm - the same as Type 100 packfilm.
The actual film size was slightly larger though to accommodate the integral developer pods.

Four variants of this film are known, including colour and B&W options in a few different speeds. (see this page on Camera Wiki)

This format used a Polaroid CB-33 Autofilm back, seen here attached to a Polaroid 600SE (photo from Facebook, here's a link)

The CB-33 back would likely have connected to the Palette using the DIN connector seen on the other backs, probably with the ability to automatically eject the film.

The plastic part that attaches to the Palette would probably have been similar to the 4x5 and Type 100 backs too, but I've never seen one to confirm this - they're rarer than rocking horse shite!
